Mariners Secure Robson On Loan

2 September 2019

Grimsby Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder, Ethan Robson from Sunderland until January 2020.

Robson is a left-footed central midfielder, who plays primarily in a deeper role but is also capable of playing in a more advanced position. Robson has come through the Academy of Light system, progressing swiftly from the Under 18's through to the 23's, captaining the squads on a number of occasions.

Speaking exclusively to iFollow Mariners, Robson discussed the move and his excitement to get some games under his belt. "It's been in the pipeline for a few days so it got done pretty sharpish and I just can't wait to get started to be fair", Robson told iFollow Mariners.

"I'm really hoping I can do well here. I can be an attacking midfielder but I can also be like a sitting midfielder, I feel like I've got both of those in my locker to be fair, whatever the manager asks from me, I'm confident I can do it."

Robson also discussed former GTFC loanee, Elliot Embleton and his experience with the club.

"He had nothing but good words to say about it here, I'm sure he enjoyed his time here and he definitely holds the club in high regards and like I said, he had nothing but good words to say about the club. I think that his experience here was a part in me coming here as the club knew that Embo had a good time here".

Robson has also developed a reputation as a free-kick specialist. You can check out his goal vs. Leicester City below.

Manager, Michael Jolley has been an admirer of the midfielder for some time and is thrilled to have got his man. "Ethan is a player I have been aware of for the last four years and I have made more than one attempt to sign him", said Jolley. "He is an accomplished left footed midfielder with excellent technical skills".

"Ethan has already had a loan in the SPL to go alongside his experience in Sunderland's first team. I feel that he will add to the significant competition that we have within the squad and I am sure this loan can be hugely beneficial to both Ethan and Grimsby Town".

"Welcome to Blundell Park, Ethan".

Ethan will be eligible to play against Scunthorpe United tomorrow evening in the Trophy, after being registered with the FA. Ethan will also wear the number 12 shirt for the Mariners.
