Following on from Sunday’s anniversary Matchday Rewind against Bournemouth, here’s an interview with the hero of that day, Wayne Burnett.
Speaking in 2014, he described his time at Town as the best of his career. “It’s every player’s dream to play at Wembley in a final, but to play there twice was incredible,” he said. “It is something that I will cherish and it will never be forgotten.”
Asked about that famous Golden Goal, Wayne said: ”I can remember it quite clearly. There’s been a bit of a mix up with their keeper and Livvo, and it’s gone out for a corner. I don’t usually go in for corners but, for whatever reason, I’ve managed to go in at the back post and get a foot to it. It’s gone in off the outside of my foot.
“It was incredible. It was a fairy tale. It was the end where our fans were. It was surreal.”
