2020/21 Season FAQs

Here’s a few FAQs ahead of the new season.

5 August 2020

Lee Blease

When are the players returning to training?

Our players and coaching staff will return for pre-season on Tuesday 4th August. There will be restrictions on access to the site and car parks from this date. Only scholars, players and coaching and medical staff will be allowed on the training ground. Strict protocols have been put in place to comply with EFL requirements on COVID-19 safety.

When we will the fixtures for 2020-21 be announced?

The fixtures for the 2020-21 season are currently scheduled to be announced on 21 August. However, these do remain subject to change as discussions continue between the EFL and the Premier League.

When will fans be allowed back inside Blundell Park to watch games?

The Government said that spectators might be able to watch games from a date in October. However last week the Government announced that pilot trials of having spectators at sporting events were to be halted so this may well push that date back.

There is a lot of guidance to consider in respect of this and that guidance is continually being updated as things change. The club is working towards being ready to have fans in as soon as allowed and safe to do so. It is very likely that entry to and from the stadium and the movement of people within the stadium will look quite different.

The capacity will be reduced to a level where social distancing is possible and season ticket holders will be given priority should this reduced capacity dictate the need to limit spectators. If the capacity limit is below that of the number of season ticket holders then we hope that all home and away games will be available on iFollow. For this to happen the agreement of Sky is required because of the terms of their broadcasting agreement with the EFL. In addition, consent of UEFA will be needed as showing games at 3pm on a Saturday would be a breach of their Article 48. As soon as we are informed that this can proceed we will inform you.

We will communicate our plans clearly to all of our fans through our media channels.

In line with the Government’s Covid-19 guidelines, we expect that face masks will need to be worn by those that can. Personalised face masks can be purchased from our club shop.

Will programmes be available?

The current guidance states that printed programmes should not be issued. The club is considering producing a downloadable digital edition of our famous Matchday Magazine.

Will hospitality be open?

We are hopeful that matchday hospitality will be available at games where crowds are permitted. The club will need to make adjustments to the hospitality areas to make this possible. We are working through the draft guidance from the Sports Ground Safety Authority to see if it is possible.

When will the 2020-21 league season start?

League Two is scheduled to start on Saturday 12th September.

How will fans be able to watch games where crowds are not allowed in?

We have already mentioned this with regard to season tickets. In addition, one game match passes will be available subject again to the agreement of Sky and UEFA

Will away fans be allowed in?

The EFL have informed us that they are intending to suspend the Regulation requiring clubs to admit away fans. If this happens we would not have away fans at Blundell Park as we would need all available seats for our own fans. What other clubs do is for them. We have asked the EFL to schedule local derby matches as late as possible in the season in the hope that by then larger crowds will be allowed.
