We would like to thank Cleethorpes Town and Dave Mann for agreeing to switch Sunday’s Lincolnshire County Cup semi-final to The Linden Homes Club.
Speaking of the switch, Town manager Dale Houlston said: "First and foremost it is disappointing for everyone concerned with both clubs that the fixture had to be cancelled last Sunday. But when you look at the havoc that Storm Dennis caused all over the UK, it came as no surprise did it. Large parts of Blundell Park were under water and the pitch wasn't playable. It's a big shame because so many people at the club were putting everything behind supporting the fixture, from the directors all the way to the staff at Blundell Park. There is no question that Grimsby Town is fully behind women's football, and the supporters will get an opportunity to see the women play at Blundell Park again, I have no doubt about that.
"In the short term though it just wasn't feasible to rearrange the fixture for this weekend at home, because following this Sunday there are a further two games in a short period of time, with two vital EFL fixtures against Newport and Northampton in quick succession. That would have been three games in the space of just six days, which is far too much for the Blundell Park pitch at this time of the year when it has been subject to the elements. When all is said and done, the future and very existence of everything connected with the club is dependant upon the success of the first team, and we must always respect that. Our time will come at Blundell Park again when the women's team play there, so nobody should be too disheartened about this. There are Premier League and EFL clubs out there than never get anywhere near playing at their home stadiums, so we are actually extremely privileged that our owners want us there.
"So understandably we took the decision to play the game elsewhere, and everyone at Cleethorpes Town has been terrific in helping with this, so we have reversed the venue and we are going to play at their home ground. The thanks of everyone at Grimsby Town goes to the management and directors of Cleethorpes Town. I have been along to see their set up, it's a smashing venue and everything is in place for a marvellous event. My message to everyone would be to come and support this, as it will still be a super local derby and we know now that there is a big prize on offer for the winners in the County Cup Final against Lincoln City Women."
