New Grimsby Town signing Josh Benson has admitted he couldn’t sleep last night, after completing his loan move to Blundell Park from Burnley.
Manager Ian Holloway signed the midfielder on loan until the end of the Sky Bet League Two season yesterday.
And the 20-year-old, who came through Arsenal’s youth academy, can’t wait to get started for Town.
Speaking exclusively on iFollow Mariners, he said: “I wanted to get some first-team experience, and the gaffer called me and said he wanted me.
“I thought ‘It’s a good opportunity to gain some first-team football, and work with such a good manager like Ian Holloway.’
“He’s a good manager – you can tell he’s down to Earth, and he knows what he’s talking about.
“I can’t wait. I couldn’t really sleep last night – new surroundings – but I can’t wait to get involved.
“I like to get around the pitch, get on the ball, create stuff in midfield, and hopefully grab a few goals this season.
“Hopefully I can get some time on the pitch, gain some experience, and just do my best for the club.”
And Benson said fellow Burnley loanee Anthony Glennon took him under his wing in his first training session at Cheapside.
He said: “He’s at Burnley with me – he’s a good left-back.
“He’s a good lad, he’s down to Earth, and he’s just been showing me about and helping me on my first day.
“I heard he did well against Leyton Orient. I didn’t get chance to see it, but he said he had done well and I’ve heard good things about his performance.
“He’s sort of the one who said ‘Come here, it’s good to gain some experience – it’s a good club and setup.’”
