Sam Russell Signs Extended Deal With Town

Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce that goalkeeper, Sam Russell has put pen to paper on a new three-year-deal with the club.

The 37-year-old joined the club in the summer of 2018 as goalkeeper, as well as his first role in coaching. 

As part of his new deal with the club, Russell will continue with his current roles as first-team squad goalkeeper, goalkeeper coach as well as Youth Academy Lead goalkeeper coach. 

Speaking exclusively to gtfc.co.uk, manager Ian Holloway discussed the signing of Russell on a new long-term deal. 

"I'm delighted that Sam has signed as our goalkeeper coach/goalkeeper on a long term contract, which helps me in the long term get the style of football I want at this club", Holloway said. 

"His knowledge and how well he plays out will help Macca understand and our young goalies coming through how the modern game is going, and modern goalies play like outfield players, as Sam himself is one of the best exponents of that throughout his whole career. 

"We are preparing him to be a fully qualified coach and I am delighted to have him alongside me at Grimsby Town as we endeavour to create our own style of football throughout the club."
