On this day (May 17) in 2016, thousands of Grimsby Town fans lined the streets for the Mariners’ open-top bus parade.

Paul Hurst’s side gained promotion back to EFL Sky Bet League Two with a 3-1 win over Forest Green Rovers in the National League play-off final at Wembley Stadium two days earlier.

Omar Bogle bagged a first-half brace, with Nathan Arnold sealing the win with Town’s third in injury time, to bring the Mariners’ six-year stay in non-League to an end.

And thousands of Mariners fans attended the open-top bus parade to celebrate the relief of returning to the EFL.
