Action from Saturday's win against the Iron

Our U18's side saw off local rivals Scunthorpe United in a closely contested game on Saturday.

Both sides started the game well with some good passing football on display.

United looked to have more cutting edge and it was they who took the lead when a cross was met with a superb header.

Town equalised immediately with a very similar goal when Blakeley’s cross found Essel who headed home with power to bring the scores level.

The hosts then had chances with Essel again, Potts forced the keeper into a smart save but at the other end, Scunthorpe missed two good chances, both failing to hit the target.

The second half was more of the same, Town playing the better football but with the Iron creating the better chances. The visitors came knocking and had one goal ruled out for offside, and had a number of clear cut chances to edge ahead.

But Town continued working through these spells, and created the match-winning chance when Davey’s clever ball found U16’s Harry Milner who poked home five minutes from time to give the Mariners the three points and a 2-1 win.

Next up for the Mariners are next in action on Tuesday when they face Rotherham United.
