Town boss Ian Holloway gives us his thoughts on Tuesday’s EFL Trophy tie against Harrogate Town.
Listen to the 12-minute pre-match press conference on iFollow Mariners.
“Tuesday's game is a perfect chance for me to bring in some young talent. I cannot afford to risk anybody that might be playing on Saturday in this game,” he said.
“I picked a team last weekend with the senior ones in it, but they weren’t even ready. Max Wright picked up an injury. I had to leave Scannell on for 90 minutes - I had planned to bring him off but I had to take two other lads off who cramped up, Williams and Green, who worked really hard. I also had to protect Danny Rose. I cannot play them again on Tuesday.
“But it is going to give me a wonderful opportunity to look at my whole squad.
"There were some great things in the game on Saturday. They let us have the ball and we moved it quite well. We made a couple of mistakes, but I saw an awful lot of my patterns and the identity we want to get. I also learned some things about my new players."
“If I ever fail, I am going to fail magnificently. I don’t ever want to be afraid of getting things wrong.
“They have got a lot to learn about my school. When a marine first goes in, is he a marine? No. He has got to learn how to be one. I hope they all succeed. My school of football starts now.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for them to show me they want to be a part of what I am trying to do here. Anybody who isn’t happy to try to do that, I don’t want them anyway.”
