Our Grimsby Town Women’s team got their league campaign off to a perfect start with a comprehensive 6-1 victory against Sherwood FC Women today.
A first-half hat trick from Sophie Bell and second-half strikes from Alisha Dejonge, Beth Wharton and Ellie Wilson completed the rout.
Speaking after the game, manager Dale Houlston told us: "We are all thrilled to get off to a great winning start, it's exactly what we needed. Four forwards have shared six goals today, and that's encouraging and fabulous for their confidence.
“We know we have goals in this team, and to be honest when I look at the front three options we have in this squad, it's frightening what we have up there. We have pace, intelligence and some super finishers".
Next Sunday the Mariners travel to Leicester City Ladies for the first qualifying round of The Vitality FA Women's Cup. Leicester City Ladies are a Premier League team and Town will need to continue their impressive progress as a team if they are to make it to the next stage of the competition.
