Listen to Paul Hurst’s pre-match press conference, watch the players in training at a snow covered Cheapside training ground.
The Town boss says that he would take the points above performances at the moment. Speaking on iFollow Mariners, Hurst said: “The results on Tuesday don’t make the table look any better, that’s for sure.
“I went over to watch the Tranmere game, to have a look at them. Stevenage got a win that on the night we didn’t want. It was two-fold – we wanted a Tranmere win for the league table, and I’d rather be playing a team on Saturday who had just won a game, rather than one looking for a reaction to get their promotion hopes back on track.
“It wasn’t great, but ultimately we need to focus on ourselves. I know we need to start picking up points and win games soon - and make sure that gap doesn’t get too big.
“As it stands, it’s ourselves, Southend and Barrow. Then there’s a bit of a gap between ourselves and Stevenage. After that, you are probably looking at a team having a really rotten run of form to get dragged down.
“We are aware of it - of course we are, we have to be conscious of it. I am focused on us getting wins. It’s about wins above performances now.
“We took some plaudits last week, and I think generally for the last couple of games people have said we have played better. I think we did play well last Saturday for large parts of the game. I have seen teams play a lot worse and get the win.
“But right now I would take the points above performances."
