Paul Hurst admitted to feeling “embarrassed” with his Town side’s performance as they were comfortably beaten at Scunthorpe United today.

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, Hurst said: “Scunthorpe were worthy winners, and that pains me to say it, especially when it’s a derby, whether there are fans here or not.

“I said to the players they were lucky the fans weren't here because it wasn’t anywhere near good enough.

“I didn’t think there was much in the game initially - a wonderful free-kick, give credit where it’s due, and for about 10 minutes after that we were still in it.

“But then Scunthorpe got on top, and throughout the game did all the things that you want a team to do when it’s a derby.

“They won all the 50-50 battles, ran harder - it’s easier when you’re in front, I can understand that, but we were second best by far.

“I’m embarrassed in truth. If you’re going to get beat, you go down fighting. We passed the ball a little bit in the second half, but that’s too late."
