Our U18’s booked a place in the Youth Alliance Cup Semi-Finals after a dramatic penalty shootout win against Oldham Athletic on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mariners started well in the early exchanges and controlled possession, but there were very few chances. Tomlinson struck from distance but the Oldham keeper collected without any problem, and Adlard and Essel saw their efforts blocked from close range.

The second half was much more open with chances at either end, but it was Oldham who opened the scoring, when an inch-perfect delivery from the right was met with a firm header to give the visitors the lead.

Town struggled to create - despite have lots of pressure. Potts saw a free-kick saved and Stratton dragged his snapshot wide.

But Neil Woods’ side were to grab a last gasp equaliser in the 90th minute from the penalty spot. Davey was upended in the box and up stepped Potts to send the game to penalties.

Town went on to secure a 4-3 shootout win to progress to the semi-finals.
