The community has spoken and we have listened. Over the years we have received lots of enquiries asking when we will be providing football teams for young girls. Well, we are very excited to announce that we are ready to launch two development squads at both under 16's and under 18's for the coming season. If you are a girl aged 15 years or older on 1st September, and you would like to try out for either of the two squads, we will be holding open trials very soon. To register your interest in joining us, please complete the form below providing us with your details.

Our two girls' development squads will be coached by experienced Grimsby Town Football Club coaches, and they will train every week, as well as taking part in an extensive fixture programme in the Lincolnshire Co-op Women & Girls league. Both teams will form a close connection with our women's team, who have been incredibly successful since we took our first steps into the female game just two years ago.  Fixtures take place on Saturday mornings, meaning that players from existing Sunday league clubs will also have access to our development squads through dual registrations.

Speaking about this exciting news venture, GTSET Chief Executive Graham Rodger said: "We are very excited to be providing additional football development opportunities for girls' and it is a natural progression for us having now firmly established a terrific senior women's team at Grimsby Town. It is pleasing to have a pathway for girls at the club, and we hope the result of this will be to see young players progress from our junior and intermediate football into the women's first team".

We also caught up with women's team manager Dale Houlston who gave us his thoughts on the girls' development squads: "I am over the moon that the club is continuing to support the growth of the female game,” he said. “The under 16 and 18 age groups are very important stages in a players development, as they prepare in readiness for adult football. This coming season is especially pleasing as it is the first time ever that the Lincolnshire  Women and Girls League has facilitated an under 18 intermediate league, and that is vital.

“Up until now, the only way forward for a girl to progress her game has been to jump straight into adult football with no intermediate step in-between. Now whilst that is okay for some players, it is far too early for the majority of them who can find that the physical demands of adult football can be way too soon for them. Especially if these young players are going into adult teams that play in leagues from tier 6 upwards.

“So it provides girls with a fantastic opportunity to join Grimsby Town and continue with their development in the right player-centered environment, with all of the necessary safeguarding in place to then transition them into the adult game at the right pace. I am sure we will see lots of enthusiastic and talented players wanting to join us, and I am looking forward seeing them giving it their all at the open trials".

So there you have it girls, a fabulous opportunity to become a part of Grimsby Town Football Club, put on that Mariners kit, and make good solid progress with your football development. Who knows, you could one day be lining up in the Grimsby Town first team. Register your details here, and we will be in touch shortly to confirm the trial dates.
