Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of highly rated defender, Sebastian Revan from Premier League side Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.
Primarily a left-back, Revan signed his first professional contract with Villa in March 2021 after putting in a number of impressive performances at full-back for the Club's Under 23s during the 2020/21 season campaign.
Seb joined his new teammates this week during their pre-season training camp at Mottram Hall and was straight into the action. We caught up with Seb after his first session for his first interview as a Mariners player.
"Pre-season is going good, I travelled down last night and got here in the evening, so today was my first session but it was a good experience. I met up with a few of the lads and they were very welcoming. In the morning at training I met up with the rest of the squad and they made me feel very welcome.
"I'm a left-back who likes to get forward. I am very good at one vs. one defending, I like to attack and get balls into the box and hopefully get lots of assists. I'd like to get a lot of minutes for men's football, so when Grimsby came in I was very interested and I feel that it's going to be a good club for my development and to get more used to the professional men's game."
Manager Paul Hurst has kept tabs on the youngster since late last season and is excited at the prospect of bringing the defender into his squad. Hurst spoke to GTTV today and told us about his plans for Revan.
"We got Seb from Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal. He's a player that I watched towards the end of last season after I was made aware of him, he was part of the FA Youth Cup-winning team, I watched the semi-final and final and he certainly impressed in those games and so did a lot of his teammates, but given the fact we've only really got Adam Crookes as a recognised left-back, we were always looking for another player to come in and add competition.
"He's certainly a left-back but we feel and I know he has before he can play up one, so there's a possibility of that and Crooksey can play left-side of centre-back so there's that option there but he's only just turned 18, he's a very athletic player who can get up and down the pitch well, has got a good delivery so he will add competition and we're excited about him.
"A full season will help him develop. We've done that with players in the past like Conor Townsend having two spells and he's gone on strength to strength and is in the middle of a very good career, so hopefully, we can do the same sort of thing for Seb. His first week has coincided with us being here at Mottram Hall, they're really good facilities here, good pitches, nice surroundings and we're really grateful for the support from Jason and Andrew for allowing us to come here to break up the seven-week pre-season up a little bit".
