Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of former Burton Albion midfielder Ben Fox on a one-year-deal.

The 23-year-old joins Paul Hurst's side after leaving Sky Bet League One side Burton Albion at the end of the season, after making 52 appearances in all competitions scoring on two occasions during his time at the club.

Fox made his debut for the club during the 2016/17 season in the EFL Cup against Liverpool as a 65th-minute substitute. Fox later made his League debut for the club in the Sky Bet Championship, coming on as a 77th-minute substitute in a 1-0 defeat at home to Brighton.

After impressing during the 18/19 campaign with 36 appearances, Fox suffered a serious knee injury in July 2019, keeping him out of action until March 2020. During his five year period at the Brewers, Fox enjoyed loan spells in the National League Tamworth, Solihull Moors, Gateshead and most recently Barnet.

Fox spoke exclusively to our official YouTube channel and spoke of his excitement ahead of the new campaign. "The gaffer gave me a ring after speaking to my agent, he gave me a ring last Monday and after a quick 15-minute chat, I was on board", said Fox.

"He spoke about the new owners, the positivity around the place, the goal of getting promoted back into the Football League and how it's going to be hard work, but when you put in that hard work you get the results and I am definitely on board with that.

"I didn't play as much as would have liked last season, it was a difficult year in terms of everything that cracked off, but now I am really happy to be here, I'm really looking forward to the challenge, enjoying my football and also enjoying some success.

"I think this is the right move for me as a person and as a player. I'm looking to bring energy on and off the ball and hopefully, I can affect the game in a positive way, I want to make things happen in possession and make sure the opposition doesn't have any time on the ball and I hope to chip in with a couple of goals."

We also caught up with Assistant Manager Chris Doig this afternoon after confirming the signing of his new central midfielder. "Ben is a box-to-box midfielder who can fill in at right-back if needed, but we've brought him in primarily as a central midfielder", said Doig.

"He's played at a decent level with them [Burton Albion], he's played in the Championship with them and had a few loan spells. He had a serious injury a few years ago and came back from that with Burton and we're delighted to have him here. He's a good player, he's comfortable with the ball at both feet and what will probably be a recurring theme of the players we bring in is the attitude. He's a really good lad, wants to do well with the team and will fit in exactly with what we want to do here".
