Derby Day Points Shared

16 November 2021

It was Derby Day for our women’s team on Sunday, when the opponents were Grimsby Borough Ladies.

Amber Sharp was unavailable for selection.

Borough started brightly, and were unfortunate not to take the lead early on, when a shot from distance hit the crossbar before being cleared.

From that point onwards Town dominated the play, with the vast majority of possession. But they came up against a very hard working and organised Grimsby Borough team, that proved resolute and difficult to break down.

For all the Mariners dominance, clear cut chances proved hard to come by. On the few occasions when it seemed the deadlock would finally be broken, chances frustratingly weren't taken.

Despite constant pressure, Borough saw the game out without conceding a goal, and both teams took away a point each.

Speaking after the game Town’s manager commented, “For all of our dominance today, it wasn’t to be. It’s one of those games when you look at the amount of time we’ve spent in the opponents half, and you are left scratching your head wondering how you haven’t won that game. But I think we have to give some credit to Borough for that too, who have worked very hard without the ball. I think also that it’s one of those games when, its not going to be a win, then it’s crucial that you don’t lose. And to our players’ credit it’s yet another clean sheet, so that’s a real positive”

We are pleased to confirm that the proceeds of the fixture are being donated to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Fund.
