Youth Team Share Points With Burton

23 November 2021

Anne Boyers

Grimsby travelled to Burton Albion last Friday for an afternoon kick off at St George’s Park - The national team training facility.

On a perfect surface, Burton Albion got on top early on without creating a mass of chances but controlling possession.

Town did break well though when regaining possession and Brown's through ball found Essel who saw his effort saved by the keeper.

Burton did open the scoring when a cross found an unmarked player, who headed home from close range. The hosts nearly doubled their lead straight after but a smart stop from Jacobs prevented that from happening.

Town then got on top. Milner was clean through on goal and lifted the ball over the keeper, only for the keeper to flick the ball over the bar. Milner had another chance on the angle which was well saved again by the keeper. Braithwaite and Scott both had efforts from range to no real avail.

Town came out the brighter side in the second half and really started piling on the pressure with some good passing moves. Finally, on the 70-minute mark, Town found an equaliser when Milner’s pass found Essel who smashed home for his 10th goal of the season.

Town continued to press and try to find a winner but it was Burton who hit the bar late on from a free kick, resulting in the points being shared in a well-contested game.

Next up for Town is Doncaster at home next Saturday.
