We are delighted to announce the signing of young attacking forward Emily Blyth for our women's team.
Emily was finally able to sign for the Mariners at the Wrexham game on Tuesday evening, which also marked her 16th birthday, the age you need to reach to play open age adult football.
Emily is described as a very athletic attacking wide forward that is able to play both on the left and right-hand side of the pitch. She has impressed manager Dale Houlston who has tracked her progress as a junior player over two seasons.
Talking about the new signing Dale told us, "I have watched Emily playing junior grassroots football for two seasons now at Cleethorpes Town. She is an exciting player to watch, has bags of pace and is another very direct player that loves to beat defenders in 1v1 situations with a bit of pace and trickery. She scores goals and she creates difficult situations for defenders to cope within and around their box. I am delighted to have Emily on board and I am looking forward to supporting her with her ongoing development in transition into adult football. It's another example really of how I want to stand by the commitment we made when we launched the women's team two seasons ago. We want to identify great talented local players, and give them the opportunity to wear the Town shirt as Grimsby players".
We also spoke to Emily who told us "I am really excited to be joining Grimsby Town, it's a massive club locally and it's awesome that I am going to be able to represent my hometown club. I can't wait to get started now. I have been around the squad now for a while, and everyone has made me feel so welcome. All of the girls' have made me feel welcome and it's a great group to be involved with".
Emily will be available for selection at Sunday's away fixture at Sherwood.
