Grimsby Town Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Adam Smith as the club's new Chief Operating Officer.
Adam has worked at all levels of the club, gaining experience across departments in both coaching and football administration. Adam's experience gives him a unique overview of the wider club.
Progressing through the Academy system as a qualified coach, Adam went on to hold the position of Head of Youth (Interim) following the promotion of Neil Woods to first team manager and again on a permanent basis following Robbie Stockdale’s departure to Sunderland as Under 23's coach. Following a short break in football to study at the University of Hull, Adam returned to the club as Academy Operations Manager in 2016 following the Club’s promotion back to the English Football League.
Adam said "I’m really excited about the future for the football club. There is so much for us to look forward to given the recent uptake of season ticket sales, the encouraging start to the season made by the first team and the general enthusiasm around the town for the club.
"I have spent time working alongside CEO Debbie Cook to understand the vision and values of the club. Debbie and the Board have some really clear objectives they want to achieve and have set some really high standards.
"This club holds a special place in my heart, my Dad was an apprentice here in the late 70’s with the likes of Dave Moore, Tony Ford and Kevin Drinkell. The 93/94 season was my maiden as a young supporter idolising the likes of Clive Mendonca, Jim Dobbin, Paul Groves, Paul Futcher and many more. Both Mum and Dad support the team from the stands most home games along with other members of the family supporting in exile."
Speaking of Ian Fleming, Adam said: "Ian was a staunch supporter of the Youth System and played a pivotal role championing the work of the Academy, particularly post relegation in 2010".
Debbie Cook, CEO said "I'm delighted to appoint Adam to the post of Chief Operating Officer. Adam brings experience, energy, authenticity, drive and is hugely committed to helping improve our culture and all aspects of the club".
Welcome on board, Adam!
