Signed for Town on a two-year deal in July 2018.
Originally Charles joined the Mariners on a season-long loan deal from Derby County in January, but the loan was cut short by injury and he returned to his parent club.
The 21-year-old striker began his career at Scunthorpe United, making the move to the Academy system at Derby County in 2013 before signing his first professional contract in 2015.
Vernam has also enjoyed a loan spell in Iceland, where he joined ÍBV in 2016 making a total of 11 appearances, scoring one goal.
Originally made his Town debut v Newport County on 13.01.18.
