The 23-year-old joined the club on a two-year deal after spending a couple of weeks on trial with Russell Slade's side.
In August 2011, Hooper signed a two year scholarship with Newcastle United and went into the team the following day against Chelsea under 18s and scored a hat-trick. In February 2013, Hooper was released by Newcastle United and signed a one-year-contract with Northampton Town following a successful trial period with the club. During his year long deal, he spent loan periods at Alfreton Town and Farnborough respectively, scoring 6 goals in 11 appearances for the latter. He then made the move to Conference South team, Havant & Waterlooville where he made 37 league appearances scoring 13 goals.
In the summer of 2015, Hooper had trials at a number of Scottish clubs, before eventually making the move to Port Vale in August, where he signed a two-year-deal. In his two year spell at the club, he made over 50 league appearances scoring 10 goals despite being played out of his natural position. In his second year at the club, he made a return to previous club, Northampton Town on loan, making 10 league appearances for the club.
In his first season at The Mariners, Hooper went on to make 35 appearances scoring 7 goals, including a hat-trick on the final game of the season in a 3-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers. His 3rd goal of the game also won the club’s Goal of the Season award.
